India’s Girls Shine- First EMGO Gold Medal achieved

 

European Girl’s Mathematical Olympiad” (EGMO) is a prestigious global competition which is sharply focused on a high-level problem solving in mathematics for girls. India with its best performance in the competition raked 6th out of 67 countries which was truly a proud moment.

The EGMO 2026 was held in Bordeaux, France in which Shreya Mundhada from India aabrought the country its first ever gold medal followed by Sanjana Philo Chacko winning silver and Shivani Bharath Kumar entitled with bronze. The training support to these girls came from Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education and National Board for Higher Mathematics. 

The win marks the historic breakthrough as India had never won gold at the EGMO before, it signifies a cultural shift not just a one-off win. Additionally, the reason for EGMO to exist is to address the gender imbalance in math. The all -girls Indian team win is a collective success, not a luck but the result of preparations and support, it further adds to the growing inclusive representation as well as easy access and training ecosystems for talented girls.
